Captain Crawford-Caffin, R.N., who died on the 9th inst. at Nice, aged 46, was the only son of the late Admiral Crawford-Caffin, K.C.B. he entered the Royal Navy in 1858, and became a sub-lieutenant in 1864, a lieutenant in 1865, and a commander in 1879. During the Zulu campaign of 1879 he commanded the transport service at Natal. He was also transport officer at Alexandria during the Egyptian War. Subsequently, as commander of the Sphinx, he served ashore at Trinkitat and at the battle of El Teb. He wore the Zulu medal and clasp, the Egyptian medal and Suakin and El Teb clasps, the Khedive's bronze star, and the Medjidieh of the 3d class. His last appointments were as commander of the President, drill ship at the West India Docks, and as inspecting officer of coastguard at Lynn.
